A competition for the design and placement of 2 telescopes in a remote location.
My approach was to work with the land rather than to make a building, in the conventional sense. The idea was to have something celestial about the forms, something intuitively reflecting the orbit of the stars and earth, and yet to remain rooted to the earth where we are. An instinctive response to man meets nature and a place for the exploration of our universe. The idea is that the cones would open up to reveal the telescopes when they were in use, and would close again in protective form when not being used. Access would be by ramps, both up to the viewing platform and down to the office storeroom below.
